Top 5 Tips for Removing Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are great for people who don’t like wearing glasses on a daily basis, or for people who don’t want to be wearing their glasses at special events. However, it takes a little bit of practice before you fully master the art of removing contact lenses. If you struggle to get the lenses out, or are fearful of poking your eye in the process, read on for our handy tips to comfortably remove your contact lenses.

Tip #1: To make the whole process quick and easy, have your eye case open and ready with fresh solution for the lenses. Once you’ve taken the lenses out, you don’t want to be fumbling around with your case, particularly when handling tiny clear lenses.

Tip #2: To prevent accidently mixing up your contact lenses, always remove the same lens first. For example, if you put the right one in first, always take the right one out first (or vice versa).

Tip #3: Look up to the ceiling, pull down your lower eyelid, and bring your index finger close to your eye until you touch the lower edge of the lens. Slide the lens down with your finger, then gently squeeze the lens between your thumb and index finger and remove it.

Tip #4: If your contact lens appears stuck when removing it, put a few eye drops in for extra lubrication. If you are still struggling, put a drop of multipurpose solution on your index finger to help the contact lens stick to your finger.

Tip #5: If the edges of your lens stick together, pop it in a few drops of multipurpose solution and let it sit in the liquid to separate itself. 

Finally, always remember to thoroughly wash your hands before removing and applying contact lenses, to ensure the lenses are kept clean. If you follow each of these steps, it shouldn’t be too long before you become an expert in contact lens removal.
